Before Treatment
- Avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours before treatment, as it may increase the chance of bruising.
- Please inform us of all prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, and supplements you are taking, particularly prescription blood thinners.
- Avoid aspirin, fish oil, and other nonessential medications or supplements that may increase bruising for 5–7 days before treatment. Do not stop any prescribed medication without consulting your prescribing clinician.
- Avoid NSAIDs such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) and naproxen (Aleve) for 2–3 days before treatment, when medically appropriate.
- Plan treatment at least 2 weeks before an important event in case any bruising occurs.
- Stay well hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment.
- Have a light meal or snack before your appointment.
- Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup, skincare, or other products.
After Treatment
- Do not touch, rub, or manipulate the treated areas for 4 hours after your injection.
- Avoid lying face-down or leaning forward for 4 hours after treatment to help ensure the Botox stays localized to the intended area.
- Avoid exercise, strenuous activities, and sweating for the rest of the day.
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours after treatment, as it may increase the chance of bruising.
- Bruising in the area injected is normal and often expected, especially around the eyes. Bruising can last up to several weeks. Taking or applying Arnica may help reduce bruising.
- Avoid applying active skincare products (e.g., Retin-A, glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide, hydroquinone) for 24 hours after your treatment.
- Full results develop gradually and may take up to 10–14 days to appear.
- A follow-up visit is recommended around 10–14 days post-treatment, especially for first-time patients, to assess your results. If full correction is not achieved, you may need to purchase additional botox.
- Re-treatment is typically recommended every 3-4 months. With consistency, results may last longer over time.
